Amber products are wonderful, but very sensitive and fragile. Over time, the products can become covered with grease or the make-up of the owner of the product, thus losing their shine. In order to upgrade your product, it is very important that you follow the instructions on how to safely upgrade your product without damaging it.
Cleaning amber with a damp cloth
Prepare a bowl of soapy water. Fill a bowl with lukewarm water and add a few drops of liquid soap. Stir the solution so that the soap and water mix, but do not form foam. Use a mild liquid soap such as hand soap or dishwashing liquid. Avoid abrasives that can damage the amber. Find a soft and clean cloth. Microfiber or flannel fabrics are most suitable for this. Wet the cloth in a bowl and wring it out so it doesn't drip. The cloth should be damp, not wet. Wipe the amber with a cloth until the dirt is removed. Immediately dry the amber product with a dry cloth to remove moisture. If you clean several of your products at the same time, clean each one separately - first with a damp cloth, then with a dry one. Do not leave the amber to dry on its own, as this may cause the amber to become dull. Polish your amber with a little olive oil. It not only removes grease marks but also polishes the amber. Put some olive oil on your fingers and rub some amber. Wipe the oil residue off the amber with a dry, clean cloth.
Cleaning of amber products with silver polishing wipes
Purchase silver polishing cloths. Such fabrics are usually sold at jewelry or craft stores. Choose those napkins that have both light and dark sides. The light side is for removing dirt, while the dark side is used for polishing (polishing) the amber. Polish your jewelry with the light side of the polishing cloth. If your amber jewelry is silver plated, you will see that the napkin will turn black. This is what happens when cleaning such jewelry. Clean until the jewelry is clean. Polish your amber with the dark side of the napkin. Rub the amber in a quick circular motion. Continue until the amber looks clean and shiny.
Cleaning amber products in soapy water
Use this method very carefully. There are many conflicting opinions regarding the effects of water on amber. While some jewelers advise to clean their products in soapy water, others disagree. If your product is particularly dirty, then try to clean your ambers in inconspicuous areas first. Prepare two bowls of barely warm water. The bowls should be large enough to hold your products. One bowl will be needed for washing, the other for rinsing. Add a few drops of mild liquid soap to one bowl. Mix the soap with water so that no foam is formed. You can use hand soap, dishwashing detergent, but avoid harsh detergents. Submerge the amber necklace in a bowl of soapy water. Gently wash the amber with your fingers until all the dirt is washed away.
1. If there is dirt between the beads, use a very soft toothbrush to clean the gaps and crevices, but do not rub too hard.
2. Do not tighten the necklace - it may break.
3. Avoid leaving your amber in water for long periods of time. Amber can become smoky after prolonged contact with water.
Rinse the amber in clean water. Immerse your amber necklace in a bowl of clean water to remove any soap residue. Immediately dry the amber with a soft cloth. Any soft material like flannel or microfiber is fine . Do not stretch the amber necklace, do not rub the beads against each other. Do not leave the ambers wet as they can leave them smoky.
